The beautiful city Golmud is located at the centre of the district Qinghai, at the Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Haixi, in the Gobi Desert.

Around the city are more than 20 big and small salt lakes.

Golmud covers a total area of 124,500 km², and is also called “the biggest city on earth”.
